Special Award 2008 to Fred McCorkell, Jr. for 50 Years of Service to the Fire Company



Fred McCorkell, Jr. - Chief Donald Freeman



Fred joined the Fire Company in August of 1958 when he was 33 years old. Through his years of service he held many positions, Lieutenant, Captain, Assistant Chief, and in 1974 he Served as Chief. He also served as President of the Local Relief Association and in 1970 Served as President of the Fire Company. He Served as Training Officer and Safety Officer over the years. In 1974 he started a Fire Prevention program at the Pohatcong Twsp. Elementary School which continues to this day. He Served as the Fire Inspector of the Township for many years and in 2001 was Awarded a plaque for his 24 years of Service to the Township when he retired as Chief Inspector. He was also a member of the Pohatcong Planning Board. He became an Exempt fireman in 1965 and was Honored as Firefighter-of-the-Year in 1979. He was again Honored in 1992 as an "Old Timer of the Year". Throughout his long Fire Service in Warren County and the Surrounding Communities, he served as an Instructor at the Warren County Fire School starting in 1968. He and Charles Wright obtained their teaching certificates for the Fire Service by attending classes in Louistown. Fred was very active with the New Jersey Fireman's Relief Association. He Served as Judge of Elections from 1983 - 2005.
